About The Event

Several Summerhill residents are involved in organised musical activities, such as choirs and orchestras. Some also get together informally with friends to play or sing in smaller (chamber) groups, mostly for “in the moment” mutual enjoyment without an audience.

It seems a pity not to share some of what we do, so as a start, we’re proposing to give you a taste of some of the “early music” that some of us play.

At the community social on 4 April, David Blazey and four of his friends from the Magnolia Consort will play a short selection of music for viols. These are fretted stringed instruments played with a bow - so something between a guitar and a cello. They were particularly popular in 16th- and 17th-century England for playing a wide variety of music, ranging from quite serious pieces to frivolous dances.

We hope you’ll find the half hour of music (from 7.30)

interesting and enjoyable.
